Shoes for Dinner

While I firmly believe that life is too short for comfort shoes, these awesomely sexy heels didn't make the cut for wearing today. They pinched a little on the right foot in the front & slipped off the heel in the left foot, no matter how many little pads I put inside them (because, oh yes, I modify the hell out of all my shoes! I put insoles, heel grippers, foot petals, & moleskin in most pairs to get a customized fit).

These shoes are the kind you wear to a fancy dinner or a party where you can sit down & show them off, but even with my entirely behind-the-computer job, I didn't feel confident that I could walk to get coffee twice a day in these shoes. However, I *am* going out to dinner tonight with my sweetie because it's our wedding anniversary! So I'll wear the shoes then :-)

What I'm wearing:
Dark grey-black pinstripe dress, made by Donna | Black puff-sleeve sweater, H&M | Black elastic belt with grey flower, NY & Company | Black tights, Calvin Klein | Black wedges with corset lacing on the back, DSW | Silver medallion earrings, random accessory store | "Rosary" lipstick by Kat Von D

Do you have shoes that are 'just for looks' & not for walking? Or are your shoes purely utilitarian?

  1. Happy anniversary! Those are wonderfully sexy shoes! What if you threaded a black (or red?) ribbon through the lace on the back so that you could tie them around your ankle to help hold them on? Just a thought...they are so funky!

Yeah, I have a few pairs of shoes that are like that. I tend to wear them for parties, then kick them off halfway through the evening...but they're so lovely I don't want to get rid of them.

  2. Hah, no, I'm totally the opposite -- my motto is "life's too short to wear shoes that hurt". Those are cute though. Do they come in a 1" heel version?

  5. Happy anniversary! Those shoes are awesome.

I tend not to have uncomfortable shoes, unless I have to wear them as part of a wedding party or something. I prefer to be barefoot if at all possible, so any kind of discomfort is just too much.

  6. Happy anniversary! Those wedges are amazing. I used to have a few pairs of not for walking shoes, but I recently got rid of them- they just weren't getting enough love. Getting rid of my purple pumps was a struggle though!

  7. Ooo, I'll have to examine the lacing & see if it'd be easy to swap out! Neat idea, thanks.

  8. Nope, just this tall one -- besides, if they were only 1" there wouldn't be enough space for all that awesome corset lacing :-)

  11. Funny, I saw someone at work today in flip-flops & thot she was nuts -- it's cold!

  12. Wedding anniversaries are wonderful! Congrats!

I bought my first pair of wedges recently, and was amazed to find them super-comfortable. I did customize them a bit with gel pads.

  13. Happy anniversary!

I love the shoes, but I wouldn't be able to wear something like that. I am the purely utilitarian type when it comes to footwear. I live in a 3rd floor walk-up in a big city, without a car, so it's all walking and public transportation for me, I have to think of comfort. The few times I tried wearing heels, I really regretted it. I always wear flats: black Mary Janes, Skecher Shape-Ups, Tom's, etc.

  14. I. Love. This.
I'm totally copying this, but I won't blog it, so no one will ever know.
Love you blog, love all your outfits, but this is one of my favorites.

  15. fabulous shoes, but i feel you on the comfort factor.
p.s. love the big belt with the cardigan, it really shows off your teeny waist.

  17. Those shoes are cute but I could never wear them. I can't wear pumps or anything low in the front because my feet slip right out. I have to wear boots, laceups or anything with a strap over the instep like a strappy sandal or mary jane.

Hi Trystan! It’s me, Dolores-from the “olden golden days”. Ehem… I finally have a lazy weekend to sit and read/comment your blog which I had been meaning to do for a while. First: I think the entire concept of your blog is a good one. Now that most of us are grown and now have bills to pay we no longer have the luxury of telling a boss off or bumming and slumming it for dark fashions sake in complete. Not to mention a lot of us have slightly grown out of the more extreme Goth look anyhow (though in our heart of hearts it still reigns supreme.. So yes I like how you keep it there yet subtle enough to be playful and workplace appropriate. Kuddos to you. Second: Shoes! I cannot resist a shoe convo! All of my shoes are “just for looks' & not for walking” even though I walk everywhere in them. I only own 2 pairs of comfort shoes (converse and a riding boot) which I refer to as my errand shoes. So if I say “can someone hand me my grocery store shoes” or hey throw me my target run shoes” everyone in the house knows it’s one of those two pairs lol. It’s a rare day I go under 3 inch heels.
