It was amusing when a coworker said, upon noticing my pointy shoes in the elevator, "I wouldn't want to get kicked with those." I laughed & replied, "Well let's make sure I don't have to!" Yeah, I think I'm going to get along with this team.
Does the temperature inside your office vary greatly from the temps outside? How do you cope?
My job is super warm and humid, so I keep shoes at work (in case I wear boots) and always wear a suitable tank top under everything, so I can strip down and not look too ridiculous. Of course, the other room is really cold, so when I switch from active work to computer work, I layer everything back on including a toque and scarf at times. :)
ReplyDeleteI have a quite warm office but the factory is a bit colder so I use layers to be able to peel off when needed. I change my shoes and sometimes take them off while working by the computor.
ReplyDeleteI think you should make sure that you're not sitting in a draught and get ache in your shoulders.

I work in an office and although mine's not the coldest, it is always a lot colder than the main building--sometimes even colder than outside! Right now our temps are in the 40s (outside) so I layer up: leggings over tights, cardigans under blazers, fingerless mittens...and I sit on a heating pad! My boss wears thick slippers and a ski jacket :)

all the way up. Most buildings seem temp controlled for men in 3-piece
suits.
That's totally it -- 'men in three-piece suits'! And yet I've never worked in a place where men wear suits. Oi.

ReplyDeleteLayers, yep, that's the key. Hopefully I'll be moving around to a different spot soon & also working from home. But this first week has been more breezy than I expected.

ReplyDeleteThere's not much correlation between outside and inside temperature, except that the building grows more overheated as the weather gets colder. I am always hot, even though I wear tank tops or t-shirts year 'round. I can barely cope with my stuffy little closet of an office. Sometimes I work in a conference room, where I can turn on the A/C. In the winter, sometimes I'll take my laptop and work outside for a while. Of course, my coworkers think I'm insane for sitting outside in the shade wearing a t-shirt when it's 45 degrees. But I think they're insane for wearing a heavy sweater and cranking up their space heater when it's 80 degrees in the building. ;) If it were up to me, I would group people by temperature tolerance, not department. :)

ReplyDeleteMy Branch moved floors recently, so I no longer sit under an A/C vent. Our area was always freezing, building services claimed that the average temperature on the floor was within their guidelines & wouldn't do anything, forgetting that we were under direct blasts of freezing air. Even in summer I had to have a jacket with me. I also kept a wool wrap at my desk to wrap myself up in when the cold got too much.
ReplyDeleteOur new floor is wonderful, so far. Temperature is kept even & no blasts of cold air from the a/c vents. But, we've been told that once summer hits, we will start complaining that it's too hot. Glass walls & we face directly into the afternoon sun. We've already had a few hots days & it hasn't been too hot yet, so we'll see on that.
Fingers crossed that summer won't be too extreme!
