Keeping in the Swing of Things

Another day, another outfit. I'm trying to get back to regular posting. Fingers crossed that I can do it. Carpool is kind of happening, work is a bit less busy, I'm not quite feeling fashionly creative, but here goes (cute shoes help!)...

What I'm wearing:
Purple knit top with leg-o-mutton sleeves, bought in London
Black corduroy skirt, H&M
Black tights, Calvin Klein
Purple cross-strap pumps, Aldo
Black scarf with silver skulls, gift from my husband
Big black & gold earrings, Forever 21
Black roses cocktail ring, Icing
Purple lipstick, Sephora

And I'm wearing "real" makeup, meaning, more than just the lipstick & black eyeliner I usually wear. Specifically, foundation. I don't wear it often to work, but I've had horrrrrrrible bags under my eyes recently thanks to even-worse-than-usual insomnia. If I'm seeing 4am, why can't it be because I stayed up partying *until* then, not because I woke up then & can't get back to sleep, especially when I need to get up for work by 7am? Ugh.

So those dark shadowy bags were getting me down. I realized I'd bought Benefit's Erase Paste a few months back, yet never used it. OMG, this stuff is magic. A little scoopful (it comes in a small pot & has a wee spoon that I'm surprised I haven't lost yet in the pile on my dressing table) smoothed under the eyes & no trace of darkness. Just pretty eyes.

I also swiped on a touch of Benefit's You Rebel, which is my workday foundation (if I wear foundation). It's called a tinted moisturizer, but it's a light foundation, imo. Then a dusting of MAC blot powder -- I use MAC foundation for evening or with costumes, basically, any time I want heavy coverage. I really like the Benefit stuff for foundation that feels light & doesn't get oily or slide off my face by the end of the day.

Do you wear makeup on a regular basis? If so, what are your fave. brands?

  1. Yes, I love makeup and buy entirely too much of it. My go-to brands tend to be MAC for eyes and lips, Urban Decay for their awesome primers, and Philosophy because I love their Hope in a Tinted Moisturizer. I've also become fond of Illamasqua's Growl lipstick -- that shade comes close to being too dark for me at work, but I don't think it goes over the line.

  2. Awesome shoes.

I use MAC Studio Fix for foundation - I have oily skin, so I can put it on thicker with the sponge it comes with, or dust it on for lighter coverage with a fat brush.

  3. Love those shoes and that top!
I really like a lot of what you wear because you also seem to love purple like I do!
Dark under-circles are my BIGGEST beauty problem, apart from a big nose. I will have to try that brand. Thanks for sharing!

  4. Also, I wanted to add how oneday I told a close friend who has skin troubles that her skin was looking fantastic, and she said she had changed all her make-up to Benefit, and has been a huge Benefit nut ever since. She always has used top quality products so I was surprised that the switch made such a HUGE difference! I have to try it for myself sometime.

  5. Covet the top!

I was big on MAC gel liner and shadow, but they don't sell it around here so I had to switch to L'Oreal. My foundation is sunscreen, Lubriderm SPF 15 in winter and Neutrogena SPF 70 in summer.

  6. Super-cute shoes!!!

I live for my Bare Minerals foundation! I also use Bare Minerals eyelid primer. Ben Nye is my favorite for shadows because the colors are intense. Lipstick and eyeliner are all Lancome.

I definitely need to try the Erase Paste!!

  7. I love the top and the shoes, too! And I also have way more makeup than I could ever possibly need. Most of it is drugstore stuff (mostly Rimmel). The only two products by Benefit that I have tried are the Sugarbomb blush quad, which I love, and Bad Gal mascara. Maybe I'll check out You Rebel, since I'm in the market for a new tinted moisturizer.

  8. Oh, lovely shoes!

    I don't use make-up.
Foundation irritates my skin too much (I get pimples and start looking like my 14-year-old self again) :(
I also don't want to cover my freckles. I love them!
I sometimes wear mascara but not very often.

  9. Nicole - I buy a ton of makeup too, more than I wear! Esp. lipstick.

Sheila - StudioFix is great for coverage, but I find I can't wear it every day. And MAC discontinued the concealer I loved, foo.

Hexotica - Yep, Benefit has become my go-to makeup for regular wear. MAC for special occasions :-)

LovleAnjel - Thanks! That top literally pulled me into the shop.

VictorianKitty - I am a sucker for Aldo shoes, heh.

Terri - Oh yes, Bad Gal mascara is intense. I actually can't wear it often bec. my lashes will be so long, they brush my glasses!

Sal Kaye - I can't wear foundation daily for the same reason, altho' I've had the most success w/Benefit. But lipstick is mandatory :-)

  10. I usually wear the whole deal (when I got out or to work) or nothing at all (when I go grocery shopping, pick up food, everything that doesn't involve being around people too long). I have not-so-great skin, meaning acne scars and an uneven skin tone and not wearing foundation makes me self-conscious. I've been loyal to Maybelline's Dream Matte Mousse & pressed powder for several years now, just because it's the only foundation that works for my skin tone/ultra pale skin without leaving it looking like a mask. As for everything else, I like to switch things up and use whatever I feel like. My favorite brands at the moment are E.L.F., Revlon & SedonaLace!

Love the shoes, by the way!! :)
