The Most Expensive Sweater

But isn't it FABULOUS?!?!?! Yeah, I splurged. This black & white cardigan cost twice what I've ever paid for a sweater, which probably means I'm a cheapskate, but whatevs. I simply could not resist (also, I was indulging in a bit of retail therapy as I've been feeling a little down about life recently -- hey, sometimes it works ;-).

Unless it falls apart, I can easily imagine myself wearing this for years tho' & getting a good return on investment. It goes with most anything in my wardrobe, from casual, like today, to dressy.

What I'm wearing:
Black & white cardigan, White House Black Market
Black jeans, Levis
Black pointy kitten-heel boots, Bakers
Giant silver filigree earrings, Forever 21
Black & white beaded cuff bracelet, bought in Kauai
Chanel Vamp lipstick

What's the biggest clothing splurge you've made? Was it worth it?

  1. That's a great cardigan! I loooove White House, Black Market. I can always walk in there and find something to get.

  2. New CorpGoth fan here, thanking you for a wonderful blog that I find myself checking daily. I love your style! And I love your sweater -- never seen anything quite like it. Beautiful!

  3. That's a wonderful cardigan! I know you will get a lot of wear out of it.

I paid $489 for a Desigual jacket - full price. But it's the most gorgeous thing ever, a work of art.

  4. Definitely worth the splurge! Simply gorgeous.

I splurged on a lace trench from Bebe a couple of years ago. I *almost* bought it full price (about $275) but thankfully they didn't have my size in the store... A couple of months later it was majorly on sale online plus I had built up a ton of points, so I got it for less than half price. Still expensive to me, though!

  5. The biggest clothing splurge I've made were some red Fluevog heels. That's way the heck more than I usually spend on shoes, but were they worth it? Oh, yes -- they're the only heels I can wear and walk in for any length of time, and I get loads of compliments on them.

  7. How beautiful! WHBM looks so awesome but soooo expensive.

My biggest clothing splurge was my wedding dress - a Lip Service gown that I just HAD to wear down the aisle. It's the only garment for which I have paid >$100.

  8. Vanessa - I've admired WHBM for a long time, but this sweater & a striped skirt were the first actual purchases.

Theresa - Welcome & thanks for reading!

Sheila - Yeah, sometimes full price just has to happen (I'm glad I didn't wait for this sweater to go on sale bec. I can't find it on the website at all now).

Sophistique Noir - Oooo, lace trench, fantastic.

Nicole - Fluevogs, of course! I hope to make that splurge myself someday.

    Sal - Thanks!

LovleAnjel - I know, but I finally had to take the plunge. Ironically, I will spend a lot on my costume projects (incld. my wedding gown) but I don't feel so bad bec. I also take a lot of time making those ;-)

  9. Ooohh, cardigans. I'm a sucker for 'em-and this one is especially great! My biggest splurge is definitely corsets-ever since I've gotten my own job, I can't resist buying them. I've made 2 orders from Punk69, and as wholesalers you have to buy $200 worth at a time-but you get them for under $30 apiece, so it's worth the wait to save up for a while, because you can get a lot more for your money. (Punk69 makes almost all the corsets you buy at local or online Goth shops for a 2x or more markup) Eventually I want to get a custom corset (there's a shop in town that does custom work very reasonably), but right now I'd rather have more moderate-quality corsets for variety than just one very nice one that I would get tired of wearing time after time!

  10. Jamie - Ah yes, corsets! Can be quite spendy, but a good one is worth the money :-)

  11. My first reaction: "Oh, this is a FABULOUS sweater."

My second reaction, upon reading that it was from White House Black Market and taking a second look at the photo: "No wonder I love that sweater. I have the same one in plain black!"

It was, likewise, an extremely extravagant splurge for me, and definitely at least double what I've spent on any other sweater. But I've had it for almost two years and I still adore it. Though I must say, there's something slightly absurd about spending something like $90 (IIRC) on a garment and then proceeding to spend a number of hours doing alterations to make it work! I am very bosomy and fount that the snaps (hidden behind every other button) resulted in far too much gaposis, so I removed all the snaps and stitched the placket closed. But it was worth it!

Of course....your flowered sweater has extra fabulous points that my black sweater cannot hope to match! :D
