Placeholder Post

I've had a horrible headcold for the past week (totally congested, coughing, sneezing, blowing my nose, ick), so I didn't go into the office & just attempted to work from home (even that was hard because I couldn't concentrate & I was so tired). Thus, no office outfits to post.

Also, I've been feeling a little off my game with this blog since I started the new job. I mostly telecommute now & only dress up to go into work twice a week. I *have* been working on a big post about what to wear when working from home, but that's just one. I've tried to take photos of what I wear at home, but it's pretty boring -- some of the clothes are nice, but I don't tend to do my hair or makeup so the look isn't very polished (and I admit, I'm a smidge too vain to post *those* pix online!).

So what's happening with my blog then? Is CorpGoth still "Corp" enough? I don't know. Which is why Alison's post on Blogger Burnout: How to Get Re-inspired for the New Year is quite timely. A lot of her tips are essentially "write for yourself, write about what's going on in your life." Now, I get this, but it also goes against part of my goal with this blog. I wanted to really focus on one thing here -- what goths could wear to the office -- & not go into my personal life. I have other places for that. But I could do more of what I call 'thinky' posts about the intersection of fashion & work & suchlike.  And really, I should just post. Outfit or no. Just post, get back in the habit. So consider this a public reminder to myself!

  1. I feel your pain. Since I'm not teaching this semester I'm really not wearing "work" clothes. I'm usually writing from home or hunkered down in the library in jeans and sweaters - boring. This is part of the reason why I deleted my past blogs and then had a "reboot" -- there's so much more than fashion that I want to blog about and I thought that LPG and TDM were too limiting. Plus I'm branching out and embracing retro and vintage styling, with or without the Goth undertones.

I really like it when you discuss your bohemian stylization. You have such a unique take on what it means to be Goth and Corp that I truly appreciate your commentary. I think it's a good reminder that corporate doesn't always have to mean giving up your artsy side and only embracing the tailored look. I love when you experiment with patterns and colors. And those SHOES! *faint* Perhaps accessory posts? Fabric care? Sales?

And I hope you feel better, darling! Hugs to you from NYC!

  2. Just thinking what an amusing post it would be if I wrote on what I'm wearing right this moment as I'm painting the spice cabinet black ...

I know you don't post to Gothic Martha Stewart anymore, but I always love to read how people decorate their homes, what's going on in their life (like you, nothing too personal), their travel plans, their kitchen renovations, the crafts they're currently working on - whatever! I think you have a very interesting life and I'd love to read more about it. And I mean that not in a creepy, stalker-ish way at all! :o)

Hope you feel better soon. Apparently, there's a terrible flu going around these days. Yay, January ... :P

  3. Generating interest in ones blog is always challenge. I am not sure I have achieved it, but it does it me focused, sourcing new post, things that interest me, that catches my attention without having to bare my soul to the blogging world. I am sure you will find your direction

  4. I only recently found you blog and have loved going through your archive. I'm about your age but I've never worked in a corporate atmosphere, before now. I've been at a loss about how to retain something interesting or genuine about my style while appearing professional. Now when I'm getting ready in the morning I think, "what would corporate goth do with what I have here?" I'm totally in awe of your style and admire your skills.

  6. Good point about Goth Martha - while I don't do a lot of projects right now, I do little seasonal house changes, & I'm always on the lookout for home decor additions/updates that I could feature on this blog.

  7. As people who work from home most of the time our lunches are probably more interesting than what folks can get outside or what they bring with them. Perhaps that can be a cooking segment for you -- "Lunch Time with Trystan." :) Whatever you blog about it's going to be super interesting and great! I can't wait!!!

  8. Maybe if you want to stay focused on corpgoth fashion but you don't have a lot of your own outfits to post, you could branch out into Polyvore sets, or you could post outfits or accessories that you find online, and explain how they could be worn. I'm sure readers would enjoy learning where you draw inspiration, and how you put together an outfit.

  9. Good idea - I've been thinking of sharing some stuff I find on Pinterest as I've finally been sucked into that great time-waster :)

  10. Ultimately this blog is about YOUR style- that happens to have dealt with the issues of being "goth" in a corporate setting. Regardless of losing the Corp, the core of it is still about you. You who likes to express herself, a square peg, in a round peg world. So I think that the blog is still relevant, tele-commuting or no, because, in my opinion your niche isn't goth, but a woman who's grown up and still shares her style with her community. Which just happens to be online.
