Something Different

This was a special-occasion outfit, so more gothic than average or every day. Sometimes, it's just required. I wore a mix of things I've made and purchased with a little vintage vibe.

I've been a little absent from blogging here because I've been working very hard over on FrockFlicks.com, where we're starting #SnarkWeek today. If you've ever watched a historical costume movie and wondered WTF are they wearing, come on over and check out a whole week of non-stop snarky fun! We're also on Facebook and Twitter.

What I'm wearing:
Nightmare Before Christmas themed mini top hat, bought in Disneyland | Black lace jacket, Macy's | Black T-shirt, Old Navy | Black & white spiderweb skirt, made by me | Black tights, Calvin Klein | Black heeled granny boots, Aerosoles | Black lace choker, bought at Convergence | Dangly faux-jet earrings, random accessory store | Black lipstick, Make Up For Ever

Do you enjoy costume dramas on TV or the big screen?

Wow, Reports, Whoa, So Busy

This is just a quick note to thank all of you who participated in this month's status report! I was genuinely surprised and pleased by seeing so many different posts. I was a little worried that the topic of commuting would be boring or not goth-fashion enough for many of you to want to participate. But I enjoyed reading all of your stories, from short drives to complicated multi-step public transit routes! We really have a ways to go to work, don't we?

And I apologize for not commenting on each of your posts, as I prefer to do. But I'm currently up to my eyeballs in work at the office and sewing at home. I'm helping out on some outfits for a Society for Creative Anachronism investiture this weekend, and I've taken a few commissions due at 12th Night at the end of December. Add in the homemade Christmas gifts my family usually does, and, um, where'd my free time go? Eeek!

So I have a few posts auto-scheduled for the next weeks, but I may be a little quiet around here. However, I am writing about costumes and movies at Frock Flicks, and we have podcasts planned for the next month. Feel free to read our blog, and follow us on Twitter and Facebook. We're planning a big event for January too.

Bram Stoker's Dracula Podcast

Want something to listen to as you finish your Halloween preparations? Download the latest Frock Flicks podcast -- it's a critique of the 1992 movie Bram Stoker's Dracula, starring Winona Ryder and Gary Oldman. This classic gothic love story features gorgeous Victorian-esque costumes, Art Nouveau styling, blood, and baby eating, which we analyze in depth (with both academic citations and a few Pink Drinks ;-).

Check it out on our website, and download the whole series from iTunes, where we've reviewed everything from Marie Antoinette to the current Outlander TV series, and we have more movie critiques coming soon. We also blog about throwback costume dramas, upcoming films, man-candy in costume, and we're on Twitter and Facebook as well.

Frock Flicks is a project I've been doing off and on for the past seven years with my two best friends, and recently we've ramped it back up to do regular podcasts and blogging. Because we all need something different, and honestly, it's pretty fun! Listen, and you'll see why!
