We All Have Off Days, Right?

Just wasn't feeling it this morning. Sleep poorly (I'm a lifelong insomniac), woke up headachy. Had deadlines at work, so no choice but to suck it up & get out there. So I took a picture for the blog, even tho' this is a pretty blah outfit. It's serviceable, it's a step up from jeans & a sweater, but it's nothing to shout about from the rooftops.

What I'm wearing:
Burgundy corduroy blazer, Kohl's (vintage black glass buttons added by me)
Black long-sleeve T-shirt, Old Navy
Black trousers, Target
Black pumps with silver buckles across the instep, Kenneth Cole
Black scarf with grey skulls, gift from my husband
Dangly glittery earrings, random accessory store
Black & grey flower hair pins, Forever 21 or maybe H&M
Dark cherry lipstick, Sephora

I had different outfits in my mind for today, but this was not the morning to bother with them. Didn't want to fuss with tights & a skirt, didn't want extra layers, couldn't be arsed to figure out further accessories.

I tend to fall back on an outfit with black pants & a jewel-tone top of some type (usually a sweater, but this jacket was new). It's basic & not insanely boring. But still, not much creativity (& I'm annoyed that I wore the same combo -- black bottom, burgundy top -- two days in a row! nobody notices at work, but it's obvious on a blog).

Do you have days like this? What kind of outfit do you fall back on?

  1. My off days consist of jeans and a t-shirt. It's comfortable and takes absolutely no thought, which I need at times when my head is buzzing with 10,000 other things. I notice that sometimes I follow the same patterns with my ensembles too. Blogs make us super self-conscious, don't they?

  2. On my off days, I wear a cozy cardigan, scarf, and black jeans...heels/boots to make it more dressy. One bright color makes it cheery on a palette of neutrals. Have a happy 2011! =)

  3. I love the scarf, and the color combination is wonderful. Your outfit is simple, but at the same time elegant, sofisticated and beautiful.

My off days is something like black trousers and black pullover, I don´t want to think about what to wear, that´s why I choose basics... :S

    Happy new year!

  4. your off days are my normal days. I'm usually wearing black bottoms and a jewel tone top. I don't even have that many pretty hair things.

I must be a very boring goth.

  5. Mina - Jeans & T-shirts *would* fly at my office (it's Silicon Valley after all!) & I sometimes do that in summer. But yeah, blogging makes me less likely to!

Stylepint - Good shoes make all the difference, true nuff.

    Madame Macabre - Thanks!

Gothicrapunzel1 - I love wearing something in my hair, but I've gone thru phases of what it is. Barrettes, headbands, & now flowers. They're so cheap at mall stores, it's the easiest way to do my hair!

  6. I try to lay out my outfits a day or two in advance so I don't have to mess around in the mornings. When I have one of those "screw the skirt and tights" days I grab a knit top and black trousers from the pile...black of course.

  7. Black leggings, black pullover is my emergency outfit. For looking nicer, add blazer, frequently a striped one.

  8. The scarf is awesome.

My fall back -- black jeans and a long black sweater. I almost always wear dresses over leggings or jeans, so when I revert to a top and jeans I always feel a little out of sorts. I'm having one of those days today. Meh.

  9. lovleanjel - I try to plan outfits in advance too. But sometimes, I just say 'screw it!'

Laurie - Ooo, striped blazer, now that's a find.

siouxsielaw.com - I wish I could remember where my husband got the scarf! It was on my amazon wishlist, but I deleted it & now I'm blanking on the store.

  10. Your "off day" is my "making an effort" day! I'm impressed that you managed to accessorize at all -- that's usually what goes with me when I'm feeling "meh."

  11. Oooh, I love the skull scarf! I have a couple of skull scarves in white and in purple that I snagged off eBay. The skulls look a little different than yours, but the length is similar. I adore them -- I was so happy when it finally got cool enough here to wear them.

As for "off" days, I tend to just grab whatever's clean and doesn't completely clash. A black top and my long, soft purple skirt are my favorites for that.

  12. Kendra - I did force myself to accessorize & I totally blame the blog! (But you know that accessorizing is what sets us apart from the other primates).

Nicole - I just started wearing scarves (other than wooly, omg, it's cold scarves) so I was thrilled to find this one :-)
