Stripey Splurge

I bought this skirt along with the most expensive sweater. In fact, it was the skirt that I found first. Sure, it's just a simple stripey skirt at first glance.

But look at that pattern -- the stripes are graduated, narrower at the waist & wider at the hem. It gives a subtle slimming effect when combined with the A-line shape, very elegant too.

This is not something I could recreate by simply sewing a skirt from stripey fabric in my stash -- this specific fabric had to be custom printed. No wonder it cost so much!

What I'm wearing:
Black lace jacket, Macy's
Black T-shirt, Target
Black & white striped A-line skirt, White House Black Market
Black abstract-pattern lace tights, unknown brand
Black slingback kitten-heel pumps, Payless Shoe Source
Gunmetal & rhinestone necklace, random accessory store
Black & white stripey bead earrings, Kohl's
Black & white flower hair pin, random accessory store
Silver cocktail ring, gift from Kendra, bought in Paris
Vamp lipstick, Chanel
Erase Paste concealer, Benefit (this stuff rocks!)
Powder, MAC

It's probably considered gauche, but I love wearing stockings with slingbacks. Just looks sexy to me, at least when the hose are fishnets, lacey, or stripey. The contrast of a patterned stocking & that slingback on the heel is cool.

  1. That skirt is FAB! You're totally right about the material too; that would be very hard to replicate at home so totally worth the cost.
    Great outfit.

  2. That skirt is awesome! And I can't get enough of that jacket.

Tights with slingbacks is not bad, it's tights with open-toed shoes that looks tacky. I'd prefer to cover my cracked calloused heels anyway.

  4. I LOVE that skirt, and that's one of the questions I ask when I buy something too -- can I make this myself, cheaper and/or better? If the answer is no and the item is awesome (or at least on super sale) then I buy.

I think you're fine with tights in slingbacks. I can't remember all the fashion rules, I just put it on and if it looks stupid, I take it off. I've had straight guys tell me I can't wear something out of the house, so I probably can not be trusted with advice. So there's that.

The ring is amazing as well. In fact, I'd like to steal this entire outfit.

  5. That skirt is so cool! I constantly try to figure out if it would be cheaper to thrift, but only because I'm not confident enough to make - but that's always something to consider.
